Official launch date for VS 2008 & .Net 3.5 – Feb 27, 2008.

July 13, 2007

Pretty funny that I wasn’t able to absorb our official launch date for VS 2008 & .Net 3.5 internally (so much email), but I tripped on it on Tim Anderson’s blog: Microsoft sets launch day for Visual Studio 2008, SQL Server 2008, Windows Ser…doing a little searching I was able to find the transcript where Kevin Turner, our COO, announced it at the MS Worldwide Partner Conference:

    Hi Rob
Love your work, read your blog constantly, but this is by far the worst news that\’s ever come out of this place.
I mean, come on, you have to agree that this is worthless.
This means that Vista and WPF has been out for 1 year and 4 months, just idling when it comes to development.
We have all this greatness that is Vista and Office 2007, but nothing creative to do with it. Hacking in Visual Studio 2005 is an option, but not a great one. Jumping between a tweaked VS 2005 and Expression-apps is just a shame. We\’ll probably look back and laugh at the today situation when we\’re standing there Feb 2008 😛
    Keep it up.

    Thanks for the kind words.
I hear you…but you don\’t need to wait until then…I imagine you\’ll be able to use CTPs of VS 2008 well before Feb 2008 (like now and the next one) that will help you target .Net 3.0.  Does using VS2008 CTPs not work well for you?

    Heh, right you are Rob.
My quick reaction probably came out of my bad experience from VS 2008 CTP. I tried it on my XP-setup a few weaks ago, but it didn\’t work to well. Had some old Beta 3.0 stuff all over the place. But I\’ll give it another try on my fresh Vista setup.
But, just like working with CTP/Betas of the .NET 3.0, it\’s all about updating your test code with all the tweaks that comes with each CTP/Beta version. For me, not being a complete guru like you others 😉 (yet) it\’s not as easy to follow what is what.
Also, the ~8 GB Virtual PC image hurts a bit 😛
    Thanks for the reminder.
